Memorabilia

Sifting through the past.

The first photos are of Castle Rock, Colorado where my great grandparents lived.  The one of the store has my great grandfather pictured in the forefront. We went there this trip and I took shots of Castle Rock as it looks from the same approximate position but in front of it.  As they say, "Take Paradise and Put up a Parking Lot".

The photo of the family is my great grandfather, great grandmother, my grandfather is the bigger boy and his brother in white.  The brother came to live with my grandmother and grandfather and worked and lived on their farm until he died. We have always thought that grandfather's brother was in love with my grandmother and that is why he stayed with them.  Mom said he helped grandmother with her chores and all the heavy lifting.

The confederate money has a political ad on the back.

Notice the prices in the beauty shop ad. This was in my great grandmother's things.

The bottom document is my great grandmother's father's service document, which states where he was, lists his family and states that he got an honorable discharge as he was wounded in battle.  My great grandmother had eight siblings and I never heard anyone talk about any of them.
